Calicut
Kozhikode, known as Calicut, is the capital of the Kozhikode District, India.
Calicut has always had a relevant position as central trading point in the spices and silk's trade. After many years under the European domination (Portugueses, Dutches, British), Calicut reached the independence according to the India's Independence in 1947. Today Calicut is popular thanks to the factories of cotton, timber and boat building. This city boasts an International Airport, University, Medical College and a well-known Istitute of Management and Technology.
The climate is hot and humid and the summer in Calicut starts from March and continues to May. The most important tourists attractions are: Kappad, the place where Vasco da Gama arrived for the first time; Pazhassirajah Museum, run by the Archeological Department and placed on the East Hill; Mananchira, which was the palace of King Mana Vikrama, now is considered an architectural beauty; the Dolphin's point is a beach that represents the best point to observe the dolphins in the first our of the day; Calicut Town Center.
