Cobà

At about 90 km east of the site of Chichen Itza, there's the site of Cobà, which during its greatest splendor was inhabited by over 50,000 people and it boasted an area of about 80 km².

Due to the difficulties to reach this area, the site of Cobà has been examined by experts only in the first years of the 900. In 1926, thanks to the explorer Thomas Gann, who was accompanied on the site by expert Mayan hunters, this place became well-known.
This expedition was followed by others difficult expeditions and only at the beginning of the '70s, because of the construction of a modern road, the shipments were made more accessibles.

Nowadays, Cobà stands for a destination reached everyday by the tourists that come from the Mayan Coast.

One of the main attractions for the visitors of Cobà is the Ancient Pyramid that still offers the opportunity for tourists to climb its 120 steps to the top.
