Ujjain
Ujjain, located at east of the river Shipra along an ancient road traveled by merchants and caravans, is one of the four holy sites of Kumbh Mela that takes place every 12 years and attracts millions of believers for the ritual bath to the numerous ghats of the river.
During the sixth and seventh centuries it was an important center for the development of mathematical sciences and astronomy.
Under the administration of the Maharaja Jai Singh have been built the observatory Vedha Hall and several temples.
According to ancient Indian astronomers, through Ujiain pass the first meridian of longitude and the Tropic of Cancer: this would explain the existence of the observatory, which is one of the three existing throughout the India.
