For a number of good reasons the first European travellers tagged the island `Cape of Flowers`. While the island is not a cape neither famous for its flowers, Flores is of awe-inspiring and unspoiled beauty, lying in its incredible landscape endowed with towering volcanoes, terraced rice fields, dry savanna and wild forest. You'll find endless villages where people practice ikat weaving, multicolored lakes on top of volcanoes, Christian settlements with European-style convents, villages deeply entrenched in animism, extraordinary dances, and some of the friendliest people throughout the archipelago.

Moreover, the lake colors periodically change due to adjustments in oxidation, iron and manganese level.
