Namibia - Useful information for your trip
Namibia is a country in Africa, famous for Kalahari and Namib deserts and for its national parks such as Etosha.
Welcome to Namibia, a land of arid deserts, canyons and great African wildlife. In terms of wide open spaces Namibia is a country that has no equals in Africa and probably in the entire world. Facing the Atlantic Ocean, Namibia features a series of plateaus, whose highest point is Brandberg mountain, home to some important archaeological sites, and Namib and Kalahari deserts. The climate conditions of this country are varied; in fact, they change from desert to subtropical and these variations considerably influence the local flora and fauna.
During your trip to Namibia explore the great national parks; let yourself be stunned by the Namib-Naukluft, whose landscapes show orange sandy hills, and Etosha, which hosts a large salt pan that becomes quite deep in the rainy season, while it turns to desert in the dry one. Here you find the great African wildlife, from the elephant to the leopard, and safaris are an experience that will leave you with indelible memories. With an area of over 22,00 sqkm, Etosha National Park is one of the largest protected areas in the world.
If you are more interested in the human aspect instead, we recommend to have a chat with the locals, maybe in front of a good glass of beer (yes, the traces of the German colonization are still quite evident). The population includes different ethnic groups belonging to the Bantu group, but also immigrants such as Boers, Brits and Germans. They maintained their traditions: this is why some Namibian towns and cities boast a colonial architecture that recalls the German villages of the 20th century. An example of this are the seaside town of Swakopmund, resembling a Bavarian village, and the capital Windhoek, with its typically European atmosphere.
The economy of the region is based on mining, thanks to the ground rich in diamonds, lead, tungsten, gold, tin, fluorspar, manganese, marble, copper and zinc. Also agriculture and breeding play a relevant role in the economy of the country. Moreover, over the last few years the tourist sector has strongly increased as well. Visitors are attracted by the beautiful and evocative landscapes, rich in charm: not only by the deserts and natural parks, you'll also be amazed by gems such as Fish River Canyon, Sesriem Canyon, Skeleton Coast, Spitzkoppe.
